Erick Sommet

Born on the 16th of September 1968

Erick Sommet is a multidisciplinary artist with a propensity to delve into various mediums, mixing and shaping them to create a highly recognizable signature. This research and apprenticeship has led him to work on projects as diverse as haute couture, costume making, theater and film design and directing, and interior decoration in cities as varied as Paris, London, Los Angeles, and New York. All of that experience has led him to work with many and varied talents and ultimately to produce artistic events and experiences.

He seeks to represent a variety of themes in his art ranging from abstract behaviorism to more literal interpretations of cultural identity. Focusing on human emotions, social issues, and struggles for acceptance and self-identification. His goal is to create works of art that challenge viewers to think about the world around them and draw meaning from their own personal experiences.

Erick's art is often described as confrontational, visceral, and powerful. His art is heavily influenced by his personal experiences, as well as those of others. He has a fondness for art as an act of communication and social commentary, which is evident in his exploration of a wide range of subjects. Themes such as migration, race, power and identity are common in his artwork. His art is often thought-provoking, eye-catching, and inspiring.
Erick Sommet's work encourages viewers to face within, exploring the strange and subconscious elements of reality. His art often transcends the boundaries between reality and imagination, turning universal symbols, such as those found in traditional religious and spiritual iconography, into something surreal and sublime. With a style that is both personal and poetic, Erick Sommet brings out his most intimate fears, hopes and dreams with fascinating and dreamlike images.

Erick produced the first mega exhibition of the Casa de Cultura Cancún with sculpture, painting, photography, installation, and a happening bringing together 15 artists
Erick has worked for and in coordination with municipal events with the Benito Juárez City Council and commercial establishments such as Hard Rock, El Paraiso de la Bonita, Marriot, Playboy, etc.
